Jason and I have officially been dating for almost four months now. Everything is going great and during this time I have also become good friends with his sister Jodie. Jodie is such a nice and easy going person that it’s hard not to like her. Sometimes when they are not so busy at the diner Jodie would call me up and give me updates on their progress.
With Jason and Jodie so busy with running the diner I don’t get to see them too often. Every once in a while I would drop in at the diner, but Jason is always so busy in the back doing the cooking that I don’t get to see too much of him.
Jason is such a sweetheart. Every time I drop by the diner, he would make my favorite meal and bring it out to me himself. Sometimes if it wasn’t too busy he would sit down and have a few bits with me. At other times he would just sneak out and give me a quick peck on the check some times equally sweet before getting back to his cooking.
On the rare occasion when Jason could get the undercook to cover for him, the two of us would sneak out for a day together. This past weekend Jason finally saw my shop for the first time. He has been wanting to check it out for a while, but had been so busy that he hadn’t been there yet. So when he took the day off this last Friday the two of us dropped by Inner Child Toys & Gifts because I wanted to check in on my employees and see how the shop was running. Everything looked great. There was a steady stream of customer coming in out of the shop.
Jason looked around in wonderment and asked, “Wow, this is your shop? It’s amazing. No wonder Jodie likes it so much. I can’t believe I’ve missed out on all this until now.”
I laughed and swatted his arm playfully, “Well you know what they say. Better late than never.”
“It’s amazing Lye” Jason repeated as he wondered around the store.
Well that was almost a week ago and I haven’t seen Jason since then. I’ve talked to him a couple of times but it’s not the same.
Anyway with both Jodie and Jason being busy with the diner I don’t go out much. I usually just spend most of my days watching television or painting. I’m hoping to eventually paint a master piece, but yea rite. As if the would happen. Well who knows, it might if I keep painting at the rate I am now.
Anyways today was like every other day. I woke up, and went to continue with the painting that I had been working on for the last few weeks. It’s actually turning out quite good if I may say so myself. I became so engross with my painting that I didn’t realized how much time had passed.
Eventually when the phone starting ringing off the hook I looked at the time and realized that it was already around 2 in the afternoon. I guess it must be Jodie calling from the diner, she usually calls me around this time.
I rushed to picked up the phone, “Hey, Jodie. How’s it going? Everything okay there at the diner?” I asked cheerfully.
“Lye,” Jodie answered tearfully. “Jason hurt himself and has been taken to the hospital. I’m on my way there to see him right now. I thought you might like know and maybe meet me there.”
“What?” I managed to squeak out. “Jason got hurt? What happened Dee? How bad is it?”
“I can’t talk much. I’m driving right now. Meet me at the hospital and I’ll explain everything to you. I just thought you would like to know.”
“Okay, Sweetie” I replied shakily. “You be careful okay, and I’ll meet you at the hospital. Thanks for letting me know Dee.”
“See you there in a few” Jodie managed to get out before she clicked off.
As I hung up the phone I rushed into my room to get changed and hurry out to my car. All the way to the hospital I was worry about how Jason was and how bad his injuries were. I was freak out by the all unknown thoughts that were rushing around in my head.
I can’t remember much of the drive there because everything was pretty much a hazy blur to me. When I eventually arrived at the hospital and found Jodie she was a mess. She was pacing back in forth across the waiting room gnawing on her fingernails and her eyes were red and puffy.
I rushed to her side, “Jodie, what happened? Are you okay?” I asked concerned about her as well as for Jason.
“It was that stupid sink again” Jodie wailed. “It broke down again and Jason got so irritated with it that he kicked it. He says he might have broken his toes or something like that. You should have heard him cursing and hollering earlier Lye. I was so scared.”
I gave Jodie a quick hug, “Don’t worry too much Dee. I’m sure Jason will be fine. Have you heard anything about his condition yet?”
“No” Jodie replied tearfully. “I just arrived a few minutes ago and no one has told me anything yet. Gosh I hate that stupid sink” she complained, “I can’t wait until we can put in a dishwashing machine. I keep tell Jay that we should put in a dishwashing machine but he wouldn’t listen. I hope this time he’ll listen”
Just then a doctor walked out and asked if either one of us was related to Jason. Jodie quickly walked up to meet him and told him that Jason was her brother. “How’s my brother doing?” she asked.
“He’ll be fine,” the Doctor answer. “We just finished x-raying his foot and everything and it doesn’t look like he’s broken anything, but his foot is going hurt for real bad for the next couple of weeks. It’s already started to swell up a bit. We’ve given him some pain killers and try to get the swell on his foot down a little. But as I’ve already said, he’s going to be in pain for the next couple of weeks so it’ll be a good idea if he tried to stay off his feet for a while.”
“Oh thank you so much Doctor” Jodie said sounding relief. “When can my brother go home?”
“He should be able to go home tomorrow” the Doctor stated. “We just want to keep him overnight to monitor his foot and make sure that it doesn’t swell up any more that it already has. If the swelling goes down by tomorrow than he should be able to leave without any problems.”
“You two can go in and see him now” the Doctor replied. “He’s resting and would probably like to see a few familiar faces”. He flashed the two of us a smile as he walked off.
