So for those of us that have bought The Sims Medieval and have had a chance to play it a bit, what are your thoughts about the game? Do you like it? Don't like it? What do you like/don't like about it?

I do like the game and I am having fun playing it. But something you must keep in mind at all time is EA did make is very clear this was NOT just the normal sims game set in medieval times.. it's a totally different game with similarities to the other sims franchise games. When you keep that in mind it's easier to play and judge it more freely.
But after playing the other sims game for so long it is hard to just totally keep in mind this was never meant to be like the other games, there are things I am missing out of this game compared to the others.
You can only play while you are playing a quest. I have yet to see if there is just a like free play function and be able to advance any certain sim without being in a quest. The quests seem to go by pretty quickly, so it's harder to get attached to your sims. I like getting to know my sims. You could just take longer on the quests in order to play with your sims longer, but if you take too long on the quest then it starts to negatively effect your sim and also some quests have time sensitive tasks (like I found out last night).
You can have kids in this, but they never grow beyond a child. There is no story progression. I think it would be awesome if the kids actually grew up and they would become the next adult generation.
I have also found it hard to give up control of sims. You can get your active quest sim to marry, but you will never have control over the spouse and that just plain sucks. I understand why, but it still sucks. Especially if part of the quest goals is to then get that other sim to do something and you don't have the control. If you place a double bed in the house they will eventually come home to it.. same as with kids if you place out beds for them they will eventually come back to it so it gives the illusion that you have a family and it actually functions like a family. But be careful of having too many kids as I said before they will stay as kids and you'll over populate yer town with useless characters. :/
One more thing (I don't want to make this all a rant). The last thing for now that I will say that kinda annoys me is there is no sense of the time of day. This is both good and bad. Meaning you can do work around the clock on quest tacks, but it's not really realistic. I had a quest last night for a couple to elope and apparently the queen doesn't like people eloping and passed a low that if you did you'd be killed unless the marriage was already consummated. o.O So it took forever to get the NPC wife to actually come home to finish that part, but then my player the groom gets the message that he should report in to the queen about the marriage, but I looked at the clock and it was like 2:30am and I figured the queen should be asleep and she would not be happy to be woken up. So I had my guy sleep for a few hours and first thing in the morning headed to the castle, but apparently that was too late and the queen would not listen to him and he was killed. This rather annoys me because if they actually followed the time line I am sure he would have for sure been killed if he also went barging in at 2:30 in the morning to say he had gone back on an order.
That's it for the ranting for now.. and to make this not all bad stuff I will give some advise from my playing. I would suggest two of the first extra buildings you place be the barracks and then the apothecary. I didn't place the barracks soon enough and now there are thieves and cut throats running all over the place. I donno for sure that placing the barracks sooner would have fixed this, but it seems like it would have cut back a little. Also now I have a lot of people fighting because of being mugged so often and they are getting wounded and not having anywhere to go to get medicine.
