I've played the entire game on Playstation 2 without using any cheats. This way, I've found several hints to help with game play:
1. Best meal: Buy the U-Probe-It Refridgerator. Choose ingredients Ostrich, Llama, Cherry, Strawberry. Eat them raw. It saves time. It will still fill your hunger AND your energy nearly full WITHOUT emptying your bladder. You don't ever have to sleep if you make this meal everytime! By far the best meal I've had my Sim eat. And whoever says that Llama will always make you vomit... is WRONG.
2. Quick way to make a lot of friends: Go to several different locations. Buy the Fitzroy Rock Pool for each place. Call over all room mates. When they are in the pool, block them in with objects. Ignore their moods, they won't die; they might pee their pants or pass out but that's all. Pay attention to yours (especially hunger). Watch the time, too; Don't get fired from your job. I did that once by accident. This pool will also quickly raise your Hygiene, Comfort, Fun, and Social (if people are in the tub with you). So if you eat the above meal and then hop in the hot tub you will have a perfect mood in no time whatsoever.
3. Skipping work: If you need more time to up your skill points or make friends to get that needed promotion, just skip work. You can skip work EVERY OTHER DAY and you won't get fired. If you skip two days in a row you WILL get fired.
4. The easiest location to beat is the Jugen House. I was only there for five real-time minutes. Play Toothless Joe and make enemies is all you have to do.
5. The easiest career to master is Athletics. It required less friends.
6. The BEST way to go about mastering careers is get ALL of your MAIN sim's skill points up to 10 and then worry about making friends. I just put my sim on classic mode (with the green bar) and let him do whatever he wants all day, fast forward, and make him go to work everyday. I got through three careers in less than one real-time hour. P.S. Make sure you continue to pay your bills, however, I got repo'd because I forgot to do so while fast forwarding.
7. Make lots of money WITHOUT cheating: For your first career pick a hard one like Medical, Law, or Politics. You will make tons of money and then you can buy whatever you want to continue game play. I chose Medical as my first and had almost $200,000 simoleons after mastering it. It also depends on how much you go to work. Granted they are harder to master so get lots of skill points and friends if you want to get through it quicker and easier.
8. Buy objects as Wants: If your sim's green, gold, or platinum want is to buy an object then go to the Buy Objects screen and buy the said object. You'll hear the cha-ching and see the chest with plus points over your sims head; stay in the Buy Objects screen and then delete the object you just bought. You'll still get the Aspiration points and the Want. It especially helps if your Fire Code bar is high.
9. You CANNOT have babies on the Playstation 2 version of The Sims 2. And NO, being abducted by aliens (whether you are a male or female) doesn't do it either!
Well, I hope this helps all of you. It took me almost a year to beat this game without cheating. I regularly played, however, not everyday. I know that figuring this game out manually is hard, so I'll do anything to help.
