Hi everyone, here's a short story I did for a competition a while back on S2C. It was for the Ultimate Faire Tale competition. If I may say so myself *brags* it was one of the first competition that I enterned and I actually won first prize. It's not much but I thought that some of you guys might enjoy it. It's from the book Princess Furball written by Charlotte Huck. Round 1Name: Princess Sophia Age: 18 Story: Princess Furball, Another version of Cinderella Kingdom: Deep in the woods Bio: Sophia's father, the king, wants her to marry an Orge who will give him 50 wagons of silver for her. Sophia came up with a clever plan. She asked for three bridal gifts---one dress as golden as the sun, another as silvery as the moon, and a third as glittery as the stars. And, in addition, she asks for a coat made of a thousand different kinds of fur, one piece for every animal in her father's kingdom. She figured that it would be impossible for her father to acquire the gifts. When all the gifts were ready, the princess decides to run away. She packs all her gifts along with a few trinkets and puts on her fur coat. After traveling for a whole night she decides to rest. She falls asleep in a hollow tree deep in the woods and is found by King Lucan, of the Deep Woods Kingdom, and his huntsmen. Sophia (A.K.A Furball) is taken to Lucan's palace and put to work in the kitchens.

Round 2: Meeting the princeSophia or Furball, as everyone at the palace calls her because of her big animal skin coat, had a difficult time adjusting to life as a kitchen maid having grown up as a princess. One day Furball heard that King Lucan was giving a ball at the castle. She asked the head cook if she go observe the arrival of the guest. After having been given permission to go for half an hour, Furball hurried to her tiny room out behind the cooking hall. She quickly washed away all the ashes and soot from her hands and face and dress her hair up. She then took out the dress that was as golden as the sun and quickly put it on. After she was ready she quickly walked to the front of the castle entrance and walked in as a guest. Sophia was the most beautiful maiden at the ball, everyone was entranced by her, especially King Lucan. No one recognize her as Furball, the kitchen maid, everyone thought that she must be a princess from a far away land. The King was quickly dazzle by her beauty and asked her to dance. As they dance he thought to himself, “Never have I seen anyone as beautiful and charming as this. She’s as beautiful as a goddess”. As soon as the music ended the Sun Goddess smiled and curtsied at the King than she took off in a flash. Before anyone realized what had happened she had vanished. No one had any idea where the Sun Goddess could have gone. That night the Cook asked Furball to prepare the King’s dinner. She made soup and drop a gold ring from her collection of trinkets into the King’s bowl. During the dinner the King thought to himself, “This is the best soup that I have ever had.” When the bowl was nearly empty he discovered the gold ring and asked to see the person who prepared the meal. When Furball shows up and he asked her about the ring she just looks at him and say nothing. Some months later there was another ball and Furball asked for permission to go watch the guest arrive again. Same as she had done before she attended the ball again, this time dress in the dress that was a silvery as the moon. Again as the music ended she smiled and curtsied to the King and vanished as quickly as she did before. That night she dropped a tiny gold thimble in the King’s soup bowl. Once again when the king asked her about the gold thimble, Furball did not say anything. At the third ball everything happened as it did before. Furball showed up in her dress that was as glittery as the stars. But this time the King has a plan. Watch and find out what the King’s plan is and see what will happen to Furball……

Part 3: Happily Ever AfterKing Lucan had fallen deeply in love with the unknown Princess that kept running away from him. For his third ball he devised up a plan to ensure that she wouldn’t be able to get away from him this time. He knew that she would likely dash off the moment the song ended as she had done during the previously two balls, so he asked the musicians to play the longest song they knew. Unbeknownst to Furball, while he was dancing with her he slipped the tiny gold ring onto her finger. The moment the music stop, the Princess smiled at him and was gone like a shooting star. She only had enough time to change out of her dress before she had to go make the King his supper. She dropped a tiny gold spinning wheel into the soup bowl this time. When King Lucan found the gold spinning wheel at the bottom of the bowl he sent for Furball. This time instead of asking her his usually question he picked up her hand, and there on her finger was the tiny gold band that he had slipped on her hand while they had been dancing earlier. She also had not have time to put down her hair and so he instantly knew that she was his beautiful Princess. He declared his love for her and asked her to marry him. “You have the beauty of the sun, the moon, and the stars. You are as beautiful as you are clever, and I cannot live without you my love” he said as he proposed. Before she agreed to his proposal, the Princess told the King her story, which only made him love her more. They had a huge wedding and invited all the people in their kingdom to celebrate with them. The wedding was absolutely beautiful. The bride and the groom made such a radiant pair as they repeated their vows to each other. That night they threw another huge ball at the castle to celebrate their marriage and the beginning of their lives together. The happy couple posing for their wedding portrait together. Expecting their first child together. King Lucan is so happy that he had finally found the love of his live to be his Queen. Sophia is overjoyed at having found her very own King and they lived happily ever after.

You know what's interesting? I heard that there was an old superstition that said that if you found a ring in your food, it meant you were going to gain a lover.
