Hey guys I have been looking around the exchange and see people have uploaded just patterns to share, but I don't see where in the game to JUST make patterns. While making furniture I would make a pattern combo I like and want to use it on many things... but it's only saved to that one object and not as just a pattern. Do any of you know how to save just patterns that could then be used on anything??

You can't make the actual textures ingame, but, if you make the colours you like and such on an existing texture ingame, you can then hit the save button, and it will put it at the end of that section. Not sure if I explained it well though... I have a house that I built using the same stone texture/colour combo for doorframes, arches and window frames. It wasn't in the list, so I saved it as a custom design, and I can then select the bit I want to edit, then look at the bottom of the stone/rock section, and it's there. You can't set colour scemes as a custom for all things, as some have only 1 to change, whereas others have 2, 3, 4 or even 5 I think is the highest I have encountered so far. God thats confusing! If it's custom textures you want to make, then photoshop/gimp and Delphy's Pattern Packager is what you want, along with the tutorial

it's NOT custom textures.... look at the exchange under patterns. Those are the GAME supplied patterns that people have changed the colors of and uploaded as just the patterns. that is what I can't find to do.
How the heck are they jsut uploading things as just patterns. While making things I can edit them and then go to save them, but they are only saved for that item..... like say I change the colors of a certain pattern for a rug, when i go to save that it's saved as a totally different carpet... which is fine too.. want that also... BUT what i want to do is save that pattern so i could then use it on something else like a chair or bed. DO you see what I am saying? How do i save just the pattern and not have it be saved specific for that one item.... and don't say it can't be done, because there are 1000s of people that have and uploaded it to the exchange... so there obviously is a way to save PATTERNS.

Ah, in that case, you save it on the right hand side, as a 'custom' pattern, after you have changed the colours you want and yadi yadi yada etc. Then you can use the same one on anything. Photobucket raped the quality, but you *SHOULD* be able to see what it's showing you... That will save it as a .Sims3Pack file in My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Exports/ The link below is the file that was created in that video www.guskatech.co.cc/custom_pattern_name.Sims3Pack

Oh yay, thanks for this! I have actually been wondering if this was possible. I was beginning to get annoyed with how tedious it is to make a nice pattern on one object, and then have to do the same all over again on the others Thanks!!

Yeah.. that was my problem. I would make a nice pattern and then want to repeat it on other objects and I would have to set out that other first object and go back and forth clicking to get the exact color # for a certain part and then clicking on the new object where I was trying to duplicate the same pattern.

Exactly what I was doing... and I just flicked through the booklet in the game box to see that it tells you how to save "custom materials and patterns", DOH.
