As mentioned in the news thread, I managed to get my copy of TS3 early due to the 'flexibility' of the manager at the store I had my pre-order at. He didn't have any of the pre-order goodies yet though (plum-bob USB stick, plum-bob stickers and strategy guide or whatever it is) so I'll have to go in and get them on the day like everyone else.
Here are the screens from my first, rushed, unsaved (thanks a lot Windows, I really loved that BSOD 3 milliseconds before I hit the save button) play.
I'll get some more up tomorrow when I have more of a chance to play with it.
I do have to say though, that the cheat console is pretty much a 'joke console' now, and the debugging options are almost a copy of inSim (albeit without the pregnancy controls)
I'll have more details tomorrow (later today actually) when I have a crack at running it in windowed mode so I can get UI screens with pie-menu action options.
The social interactions are great, no more general options, now you get sub-menus with a wide variety of actions based on the category it falls under
eg. "Compliment on appearance, compliment on clothes, etc." under the menu "flirt"
Free-will has been beefed up, and is now adjustable, not just on or off. I left my sims to their own devices for an hour or so, and they did not miss one day of work, did not starve, did not wet themselves, and even gained the skills needed for their job.
The drawback to the beefed up free-will, is that other families (can't call them lots anymore, as the whole thing is integrated into one huge lot) will continue to go about their business, and age etc while you are playing (as you can see in the 4th screenshot, there is a person walking around the yard of the house on the corner block, just noticed that now). Although this feature can be turned off. Personally I think it's a great idea, but I call it a drawback because I know that many of you have eleventy billion lots for various things.
Still loving the diagonal and half-grid placement of pretty much everything though. Makes the rooms look a lot more 'natural' and will allow for a much greater scale of CC once the whole things been busted open. The CC issue is going to be a big one though, as the package technology for Spore still hasn't been fully decoded yet, and TS3 seems to use an even more complicated version again (judging from what people have found out in the time they have spent with the package files they 'magically' got their hands on.
The My Docs/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 folders include "Downloads" and "InstalledWorlds" so support for CC is there, it just remains to be seen whether outside CC will work, or if we are stuck with in-game recolours of existing Maxis stuff (which to be honest, is pretty good actually, with a large variety of styles, and large enough sets to furnish an entire house)
CAS is sleek as well, and you can change the face width finally!
Oh, unlimited multiple saves too, which is a bonus.
More to come...
