Okay so i have the new AL ep.. and I am trying to make my own apartment complex and having a devil of a time with it. I can not get it to come up as an apartment. I read that you had to use the changeLotZoning[zonetypehere] and I did that and it *still* doesn't come up as an apartment building. When someone figures this out could you please let me know what exactly you do and help me out. Thank you in advance

I haven't got it myself yet but I've been reading threads over on s2c and it seems a lot of people are having trouble building their own apartments and getting them to work properly... Here's one of the threads about it you might wanna read, see if you find anything in it: forums.sims2community.com/showthread.php?t=61116

thanks for the link Colada... is nice to see I am not the only one having troubles :/ building was a huge aspect of the game i was really looking forward to. I do see from the thread one thing i was ding wrong. The Maxis chat only said to use the lot zoning cheat like dorms and didn't actually say what words to use and I just used 'apartment' when it came time to put in the lot zone type... but from reading the thread there i see you need to use 'apartmentbase' .... *sighs* sadly have to head off to work now, but when i get home in a few hours i will try again and report back.

Dizzy, when you punched the code in changeLotZoning (I know there are two apartment ones listed) did you type in apartmentbase instead of the other one if not that may be your problem. I have tried this and it seems to work.

YAY! I got it to work!!! Okay here is what else I found out.. you HAVE to have the garbage chute thing... even if you make like separate houses.. you need to have the chute in there somewhere. Also i had been writing the code worng.. i read someone say it was 'changeLotZoning[apartmentbase]' and really it's 'changeLotZoning apartmentbase' so no '[ ]'s and there is a space instead.. and I got it to work just fine as a side note I downloaded the old default replacement skins I had forever and they show up in my game!! I donno if it's cause they are the ones I had been using or if my game all of the sudden decided to actually work... but i have default replacement skins now.. wooohooo!!!

Hmmm....I think I forgot about the chute thing where is it found in the game? The buy mode? Or build? If so where?

buy mode, under misc. Does every 'flat' need one?

No I think they only need one thats what the Maxis made ones have.

well i did each one with a chute cause they are all separet things (moblie home park). And I read someone say on the S2C thread that they found it was better to have one out side each apartment door *shrugs* donno...
I guess people are not making houses correctly and there are being issues with what the game is then considering common space and the private apartment.

Might as well reuse this thread... (maybe I'll change the name to questions about Apartment Life or something like that)
Anyways...
I read that you can only have up to 4 playable families in any one lot, but I then notice there is the maxis made trailer park and there are 5 homes there. So my question is if any of you know if you have an apartment building with more than just 4 units.. will the extra units be filled with NPCs once there are 4 playable families in the complex? (donno if i worded that right.. hope you understand my question)

I do understand the question Dizz and am pretty sure the answer is yes... I think I remember reading it in a thread on s2c somewhere.

i understand what you are saying to...but Colada you are saying that once there are 4 families in..there is NO way the game will let you move in a 5th?

Post by Dizzy on Sept 4, 2008 12:15:58 GMT
I wasn't really asking if I could move in a 5th.. i was just wondering if the game would fill them up even if there were 4 families living there...
I guess the easiest thing would be to make a building with more than 4 apartments and put 4 families in and see for myself ;P
oh and I wanted to report back about the garbage chutes... remember how I said I was told i still needed them no mater what.. even if each apartment was like a seperate home with no connecting halls... well i put a garbage chute in each trailer and I just looked and they disapeared with the other non kitchen/bathroom furniture like it does when you used the cheat to change the lot to an apartment. So as of now there are NO garbage chutes on the lot any where and it's functioning just fine.. they use the garbage can out front. The people over at S2C that answered my question said if i didn't have a chute at all then garbage would pile up everywhere o.O they were wrong.

I don't know for definite as I haven't installed the game yet but I read that you could only have 4 playable families per apartment lot...

I know this is going to sound like a pretty dumb but how do you buy a toy dog? I've been hearing about them for a while and about them being on the new ep. and all. But I don't know where they are located in the game.

That is actually a good question! I remember reading about the new small apartment friendly dogs, but I have yet to see them, and all the dog to make in CAS are the same as before.
